Pro-Active Resources is certified by the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addictions as an Outpatient Service Provider for Alcohol and Drug Services. We are also certified by several Central Indiana court systems as approved providers.
At Pro-Active Resources, we do not believe that “one size fits all” when it comes to the clinical needs of our clients. Therefore, we offer a variety of services that can be tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual client we treat.
Pro-Active Resources offers the following outpatient alcohol and drug services to our clients:
Individual Counseling
Marital (couples)/Family Counseling
Extended Outpatient Treatment Program (EOP)
Education programs that can be combined with treatment or counseling, if necessary
Referral to another level of care
Each of the outpatient services we provide may be enhanced by the client also participating in one of our education programs (See Education Programs). It is also possible that a client may participate in the Extended Outpatient Treatment Program and also receive Individual counseling and/or marital or family counseling.
The EOP is a program designed to assist a person experiencing problems with alcohol and/or drugs to:
Accurately self-diagnose their use of alcohol or drugs and determine if they are addicted
Decide if a life of sobriety is desired, and if so:
Develop the skills to remain sober
Develop a foundation of recovery in a 12-Step program, if ongoing sobriety is desired
What's different about EOP? Most outpatient treatment programs are called “Intensive Outpatient Treatment Programs” (IOP). IOP originated about 25 years ago when the health insurance industry decided they no longer were willing to pay for inpatient treatment. Most IOP programs meet three times per week in the evening for three hours for 8 weeks, or 72 hours. The treatment is conducted in a group counseling setting.
Pro-Active Resources tried this approach to treatment for the first few months of its operation twenty plus years ago. While it had some positive features, we noticed that most adults that had worked all day had difficulty remaining focused for three hours in group counseling.
Over the years we developed a program we call the Extended Outpatient Program (EOP), which is based partly on research and largely on observation and common sense. The main difference is that our program meets twice a week for 1½ hour sessions for a total of 72 hours, which takes 24 weeks instead of 8 weeks to complete.
The reason we take this approach is simple - it realistically takes time for people to make major changes in their lives. We also reduce the stress for a person by attending two 1½ hour sessions per week rather than 9 hours a week of IOP.
Pro-Active Resources offers daytime, early evening (6pm) and late evening (7:45 pm) groups in Hamilton and Hendricks Counties (Call our office for details).
Individual counseling is generally not considered the most effective form of counseling to treat alcohol and drug problems. Most people benefit greatly from the “universality” (i.e. common experiences) of the group modality.
Individual counseling is most effective for dealing with issues a person does not feel comfortable discussing in a group setting, (i.e. relationship problems, family of origin issues, sexual issues, etc.). It is not uncommon for an individual to benefit from both types of counseling, either simultaneously, or with the individual counseling following the completion of EOP.
We have marital and family counseling available both on site and through referral to other highly regarded Marital and Family Therapists in the community, when needed.
Chemical Dependency affects the entire family. Therefore, we encourage the whole family to get help and support.
Sometimes a person or family member realizes a serious problem with alcohol or drugs exists, but has no idea where to go for help. Pro-Active Resources cannot be all things to all people that have alcohol or drug problems.
We are part of a large network of service providers that serve Central Indiana. In some instances, a person may need services such as detoxification, inpatient treatment, a halfway house setting, etc. Our clinical staff is experienced in diagnosing the level of care needed and, if necessary, making the appropriate referral to other qualified agencies.
