I don’t know how to begin to thank you for everything you have done in the last year for our son. It’s been so scary and also really exciting to watch him grow and change. He has shared with me things that he has learned in group and your program at Pro-Active has enriched our family as a whole. We have all benefited by watching our son become this amazing, responsible, intelligent young man who sets such a great example for everyone he meets and knows.
Thank you for your honesty and continued support for our son and our family. I can’t put into words how very grateful I am for the opportunity you have given our son. I’m not exaggerating when I say that you played a great part in saving my son’s life!
Sincerely, Kim
To whom it may concern,
When I first met with Pro-Active, I sincerely felt that I did not have an issue with alcohol. This was in spite of the fact that over the past 10 years I had three DUI's and a PI arrest. I suppose, I was able to rationalize even the most abnormal behavior.
Through my experience with the court systems, I had been through a number of counseling programs with no real change in behavior (i.e., if there is not a problem, there is nothing to change). As I met with the Pro-Active Counselor, a Recovering Alcoholic, he was able to see clearly who I was based upon his own experiences. Through the weekly group sessions at Pro-Active (I believe 12 weeks, possibly more), I was able to see my story emerging from the other participants. I sincerely believe this was the first time I identified that I had a problem and that I was possibly an alcoholic. It took quite a bit of work and recovery to accept that I was (am) an alcoholic.
The Pro-Active program in which I discussed my experience with alcohol and heard other participant's experiences with alcohol and drugs made a difference. The attendance at AA Meetings as part of the Pro-Active Program, reinforced my conclusion that I was indeed an alcoholic and subsequently enabled me to take my first step toward sobriety.
I continue to attend AA meetings today, even though it has been more than eleven years since I have had a drink. I am forever thankful to Pro-Active for the their integral role in my sobriety.
Respectfully, Rick
My name is Jane and I am 50 years old and have been sober for 11 years and 4 months. I began my recovery in rehab for a week. While in rehab, I knew I wanted to stay sober but did not know how. My counselor recommended Pro-Active Resources and AA to help me learn how to live clean and sober. I attended Pro-Active Resources weekly for 6 months and began learning to live without Alcohol in my life. I also attended weekly AA meetings. At Pro-Active Resources, I found comfort with other people trying to learn the same thing as I needed to learn. It taught me how alcohol affected my body, mind, and spirit. I learned how my body became addicted to the alcohol and how through learning about alcohol and myself I could stay clean and sober.
Luckily, I ended my drinking before I had to face many devastating consequences. While attending Pro-Active Resources, I learned how much worse my life could have gotten if I didn’t quit drinking. There are many degrees of lows and mine was relatively not too bad. I did not lose my job, home, family and did not get into an accident or arrested, but if I continued to drink those things were not only very possible, but probable. I learned techniques to arm myself against alcohol. I learned to plan for the expected and unexpected situations and to be “Proactive” about my sobriety. I learned that I didn’t have to stop drinking “forever”, just not drink one day at a time. I learned what was important in my life and without working at staying sober, it all could be lost. Without the tools and education I got from Pro-Active Resources, I am not sure I would have the ability to stay sober.
