Problems and conflicts are a normal part of everyday life. Most often, people deal with their frustrations in ways that work well for them. Some individuals, however, have a pattern of responding to these difficult situations with reactions that not only do not solve the problem, but also create additional conflicts.
The primary purpose of this program is to assist the client in identifying and exploring self-defeating behaviors regarding the expression of anger and learn new, more effective coping skills.
This program utilizes cognitive behavioral group treatment. Clients learn that the expression of anger is a learned behavior, and if they are willing to challenge and change their thinking, they can learn effective and appropriate expression of their anger. Clients identify their anger triggers (situations in which they are particularly susceptible to rapid, maybe intense anger), and their anger cues (warning signs their anger is building).
They will develop anger management strategies in response to the event and cues, known as an anger control plan. Other components of the Anger Management Program require participants to identify and change irrational thinking and negative self-talk to rational thinking and positive self-talk.
Clients also receive Assertiveness Training and learn effective conflict resolution skills.
